my old teakwood bones
creak and i settle, weary
sagging into my
weather-worn frame,
but i can still remember
the lilt of voices
singing in rhythm
a silly ditty in time
to the oar’s motion
as they cut the glass
surface of the lake’s serene
waters beneath me
